This 18,000ft² addition to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum contains a state-of-the-art, 250-seat multi-purpose theatre, a new entrance atrium, classrooms, and accessible washrooms. Enhancements to the site included new decorative concrete access pathways, extensive site furnishings and entirely new soft and hard landscape features. As a first on a Lundy project, we incorporated a plane into the build: A Snowbirds Tutor jet, suspended in mid-maneuver, hangs gracefully from the ceiling of the new atrium.
Within the existing museum, a new 2500ft² boutique was constructed and the cafeteria modernized and expanded.
The completion of this milestone project saw the renaming of the museum to include not just a reference to aviation, but also Canada’s significant and ongoing contribution to advancements in space exploration.
Lundy won the General Contractors Association of Ottawa Award of Merit for our work on the Canada Aviation and Space Museum addition and renovation.
