The Wildpine Retirement Residence, located in Stittsville, encompasses 189 independent living suites over four storeys. The facility includes a spa, salon, full-service dining, a theatre, bar, tea room, and library.
The building superstructure was designed and installed in partnership with Canam Steel, utilizing their Hambro M2000 composite slab system as well as Canam’s proprietary prefabricated load-bearing wall panels. The result is a highly efficient structure that was erected 25% faster over conventional structural systems.
Poor, saturated soils were encountered on the site as a result of proximity to Poole Creek. Strategies to mitigate early schedule setbacks caused by soil issues involved careful review of the foundation design. Also, during the first stage of construction, founding elevations were adjusted to improve soil bearing conditions.
Working with the building operators to ensure committed move-in dates could be met for the first residents, the project was successfully delivered in two phases of occupancy.
